India's own tablet Aakash 2 available for students on Rs 1,130 from today onwards. Indian president pranab mukherjie launched the second version of Akash named Aakash 2. Akash is famous for its cheap rate and better performance.
Aakash 2 was developed by Mumbai IIT with the help of C-DAC and the tablet is manufactured by Datawind. The manufacturer supplies aakash2 tablets to the indian government for Rs 2,263 and the government distributes it among the students of india on a 50% subsidized rate of Rs 1,130.
First version of aakash launched in October 2011 was a flop and it lead to the development of cheap rated, highly equipped, better performing Aakash 2. By the launcing of Aakash2 indian govt made a step forward in the education sector of india. Already a large set of teachers from around 250 colleges of india were trained with the new tablet. At first the govt is looking to distribute the tablet among the major engineering colleges across the country.
Abilty to work on Linux platform will be an added advantage. Datawind CEO Suneet Tuli says that, akash2 can remotely control even a robot.
